Traveling Back to the 1600's
Picture
Our class took an imaginary trip--guided by Mr. David and Mrs. Carol Feinberg--back to the year 1620. The engaging grandparents of Emuna and Temima brought the Thanksgiving story to life by dressing up as King James, William Bradford, a Pilgrim woman and Squanto the Indian, reciting original poetry, and singing traditional holiday songs. The interactive presentation gave the children food for thought to ask the teachers more about the upcoming holiday.

King James (played by Mr. Feinberg) refuses to allow an innocent  Pilgrim (played by Mrs. Feinberg) practice her religion freely.
Mrs. Feinberg describes the long and tough voyage on the Mayflower in search of Freedom.

Bnos Aliya thanks Mr. and Mrs. Feinberg for leading such an exciting presentation and for donating our educational Thanksgiving props, costumes, and books! We encourage other grandparents willing to lead a short class on their occupation or another subject to contact us.  We are eager to learn from you.
"Thank You," The Essence of this Great American Holiday
Mrs. Friedman followed up the Thanksgiving presentation with a discussion on how Thanksgiving relates to the Mitzva of Hakaras HaTov (gratitude). The girls shared their excellent ideas about how to express gratitude in their daily lives. We continued the theme with a language lesson on how to write a thank you note. The girls then each wrote and illustrated an original thank you note for Mr. and Mrs. Feinberg.

We welcomed our consultant, Brocha Baum Margolese, Educational Director at Darchei Noam. A seasoned expert in both Montessori and Rabbi Rietti’s Al Pi Darko approaches, Morah Brocha runs her own Jewish Montessori preschool and lower elementary in Baltimore, Maryland. Morah Brocha observed, worked with the children, and provided helpful feedback to the staff to continue to enhance our unique program. Thank you, Morah Brocha!
